The Invisible Mum Problem
If you scroll through the camera roll on your phone right now, how many photos do you see of your kids? Dozens. Hundreds. Thousands.
And how many photos are you in?Not selfies. Not blurry snaps where you’re half-cut off with a ponytail and no make-up. I mean real photos. You with them. Loving them. Living with them.
For so many mums, the answer is: barely any.
Why it happens (and why it hurts later)
We’re the memory keepers. The ones pulling out the phone at Christmas lunch, the beach, the playground, even when the kids are covered in ice cream and chaos. We’re documenting it all but often from behind the camera.
It’s easy to say, “Oh, it doesn’t matter, I’ll be in the next one,” or “I don’t love my body right now, I’ll wait until I feel better about myself.” But here’s the hard truth: while you’re waiting, time isn’t. Your babies are growing, changing, sprinting through milestones that you’ll never get back.
One day, when your kids look back at the photos, what they’ll want to see isn’t the perfect body, the perfect hair, or the clean house. They’ll want to see you. Present. Loving them. Showing up.

The invisible mum problem
When I look back at my own childhood, I ache at the missing pieces. My grandparents passed away when I was young, and the few photos I do have of them are treasures. My parents are older, with health struggles, and I know the day will come when photos are all I have.
That’s why I’ve made it my mission not just for me, but for you to make sure mums aren’t invisible. To make sure you’re seen, and that your children have proof of just how fiercely you loved them.
Because here’s the thing: family photos aren’t just for us now. They’re for the little girl who will one day grow up, hold those photos, and know without a doubt that she was cherished.
Why professional motherhood photos matter
It’s not about having perfectly posed portraits (although yes, you’ll love having a few of those too). It’s about capturing the in-between: the way your toddler’s hand grabs your hair, the sleepy newborn scrunch in your arms, the joy of running barefoot on the sand.
As a motherhood photographer in the Sutherland Shire, I’ve seen time and again how much these fleeting moments mean. Whether it’s maternity photos in Cronulla at sunrise, in-home newborn sessions in Caringbah, or family photography across Sydney’s beaches and bushland what we’re really capturing is proof of your love.

This is your reminder
Stop waiting. Stop hiding. Stop hoping someone else will magically pull out the camera and capture the moment for you. You deserve to be in the frame. Not posed to perfection, but as you are. With them.
And when you look back in 10, 20, 30 years… you’ll be so grateful you did.
✨ At Stills by JP, I create relaxed, love-filled sessions across the Sutherland Shire, Cronulla and Sydney. From maternity to newborn to family milestones, my goal is simple: to keep you in the frame, so your story is remembered.
