Newborn Photographer in the Sutherland Shire: Gentle, In-Home Sessions for New Families

I'm Jodie, the photographer behind Stills by JP, and I photograph newborns in their own homes right across the Shire - Cronulla, Caringbah, Miranda, Sutherland, Gymea, Kirrawee, Engadine and the surrounding suburbs. Gentle, unhurried, no studio drive with a days old baby in the back seat.

Why in-home newborn photography?

In-home newborn photography means I come to you, with all my gear, while your baby is at their newest. There's no packing a nappy bag for a studio you've never been to, no working around an unfamiliar room, no rushing because the parking meter's about to run out.

In your own space, your baby sleeps better, you feed whenever you need to, and the photos look like your life. The morning light through your lounge room window, the bassinet you spent weeks choosing, the big sibling running in to have a look. That's the stuff you'll want to remember.

It's also weather-proof, which matters more than people think. A Shire winter doesn't care about your due date. In-home sessions run rain, hail or southerly buster.

What a newborn session with Stills by JP actually looks like

My sessions are slow on purpose. Newborns set the pace and I follow it. We'll do a mix of baby on their own, those curled-up, sleepy, impossibly tiny frames and the ones most mums secretly want most: you, holding your baby, actually in the photo.

That last part is the whole reason Stills by JP exists. So many mums spend the newborn weeks behind the phone, documenting everyone but themselves. Years later they scroll back and there's barely a single photo of them with their baby in those early days. I make sure that doesn't happen to you.

A typical session covers:

• Baby solo - sleepy, awake, the works

• You and your baby together

• Both parents with baby

• Siblings, if you've got them (no pressure on the toddler, we work with the chaos, not against it)

• The small details: tiny hands, the hospital tag, the outfit that already fits for about another week

Where I photograph newborns in the Sutherland Shire

Because newborn sessions are in-home, "location" means your home anywhere in the Sutherland Shire. I'm Shire based and local, so I'm not driving in from the other side of Sydney; I genuinely know these streets.

When should you book a newborn photographer?

Earlier than feels natural ideally in your second trimester. The dreamy sleepy newborn look only lasts the first couple of weeks, and I book out 6–8 weeks ahead. Reaching out before your baby arrives means your spot is held and we simply confirm the date once they're here.
