What to Expect from an In-Home Newborn Photography Session in the Sutherland Shire

An in-home newborn photography session in the Sutherland Shire is exactly what it sounds like: I come to your house, set up in your best natural light, and we spend a relaxed couple of hours photographing your baby and your family at their newest, no studio drive, no rigid posing, no pressure. Here's how it actually runs, so nothing's a surprise.
Why in-home instead of a studio?
In-home means your baby stays in their own environment, you can feed and settle whenever you need to, and the photos carry the feel of your real life rather than a generic backdrop. It's also the easiest option in those tender early weeks you're not loading a daysold baby into the car and finding parking. I bring everything to you.

How do I prepare my home for a newborn session?
You don't need to deep clean the house or stage anything we use one or two rooms with the best light, and I work around the rest. A few small things genuinely help:
Pick your lightest room. Wherever the most natural daylight comes in often a bedroom or lounge near a big window. I'll guide you on the day, but have a think beforehand.
Warm it up. Newborns settle best in a warm room, warmer than feels comfortable for you. Crank the heater before I arrive.
Feed before we start. A full, sleepy baby is a happy baby. We're flexible, feeds happen whenever they happen.
Tidy the "hero" surfaces. Just the bed or couch we'll photograph on. Everything off-camera can stay exactly as real life left it.
What happens during the session?
Sessions are slow and led by your baby. Roughly, it flows like this: we settle in and have a chat, I set up in your chosen light, and then we move gently between baby with any siblings, you and your baby together, both parents, and baby on their own. We pause for feeds, cuddles and nappy changes as often as needed. Nothing is rushed. The whole point is that it feels like a calm morning at home, not a photo shoot.

What should we wear?
Keep it simple and soft. For you: neutral or muted tones, nothing with a loud logo or busy pattern, something you feel comfortable and yourself in. For baby: often just a nappy or a simple wrap works best their skin and those tiny details are the whole point. I'll send full guidance once you've booked, but "relaxed and tonal" is the rule of thumb.
Prefer a studio? There's an option for that too
If your home feels too small or too dark, or you'd simply rather not host, I run monthly studio newborn sessions at Blossom Hair & Beauty in Taren Point. It's a beautiful ready made set-up for parents who want a newborn session without the full in-home experience.
What happens after the session?
After your session I hand edit your gallery and deliver it through an online gallery (Pic-Time), where you can view, download and order prints. I always recommend actually printing them a gallery on your phone is lovely, but a framed print on the wall is the thing your kids will grow up looking at.
