There’s something magical about capturing family moments outdoors the golden light,
the giggles, the wind in your little one’s hair. The Sutherland Shire is full of stunning
locations, and as a local Sutherland Shire family photographer, I’ve found a few favourites that offer the
perfect mix of beauty, space, and relaxed vibes.
Here are my top 5 outdoor family photo locations in the Shire:
1. Darook Park, Cronulla

Calm, quiet and full of charm, Darook Park is ideal for young families. It has gentle shoreline
access, leafy shaded areas, and soft golden light in the late afternoon. The relaxed pace here makes it easy for kids to run free and for us to capture those in-between moments.
2. Audley, Royal National Park
For a leafy, rustic setting, Audley ticks all the boxes. With wide open grasslands, pretty river
views, and charming heritage bridges, it’s a nature-lover’s dream. This spot is perfect if you
want a mix of structured portraits and playful candid shots among the trees.
3. Kurnell Coastal Walk & Silver Beach

Kurnell offers a stunning blend of nature and coastline. The Cape Solander walk has
dramatic cliffs and sweeping ocean views, while Silver Beach gives you soft sand, calm
water, and those wide open skies. Perfect for adventurous families who want a mix of
scenery in one shoot.
4. Shelly Park, Cronulla
This local favourite combines everything we love lush grass, leafy shade, and ocean
views. The park is great for letting toddlers play freely while I snap away in the background.
It’s especially lovely in the early evening light.
5. Oak Park & The Esplanade
Just a short stroll from Shelly Park, Oak Park offers fig trees, sandstone steps, and a coastal
vibe. If you’re dreaming of photos with natural textures and that beachy energy, this spot is
a go-to.
Honourable Mentions
Couldn’t leave these out!
Joseph Banks Reserve, Kareela – great for native greenery and peaceful vibes.
Wanda Sand Dunes – dramatic and fun for movement-filled portraits with older
kids.
